Rosehill Secondary College

Reporting Process

Parents are encouraged to make contact through the use of the College diary and or contact teachers by phone to arrange personal interviews.

Students will be assessed through a series of SAC’s – School Assessed Coursework in each unit they undertake. Students will be graded on a 5 point scale (High Distinction, Distinction, Credit, Pass, Not Satisfactory). This replaces the A to E assessment scale due to the implementation of the new VELS curriculum

The school will impliment the statewide report card where students will be assessed against the statewide reporting standards

Reporting Standards top

At years 7 - 10 students will be assessed according to VEL standards. The Learning Outcomes are organised into levels, which correspond to Year levels of schooling.

Vels Level Year Level
4.5 End of Year 7
5 End of Year 8
5.5 Enf of year 9
6 End of year 10

When reporting parents will receive a description of the curriculum covered and an indication of student achievement against the VELS levels for each Key Learning Area the students have studied during the semester. This will involve teachers making judgements against the learning outcomes in each of the KLA"s. Since the VELS levels span two-year levels, different students are likely to be at different stages within a level.

School Assessment Coursework top

Assessment Tasks are the third element of the students assessment. Each unit a student undertakes will also have two but not more than three assessment tasks that will be graded. These assessment tasks will be graded with similar letter grades currently used at the VCE level. At years 7 - 10 students will be assessed according to the Victorian Essential Learning Standards – VELS The following is a description of each letter grade.

Extensions top

As is the case in VCE, a student requiring an extension for a piece of work, must observe a formal process. If a student realises before the due date that he/she will not be able to complete a work requirement he/she will need to:

1. Inform the subject teacher

2. Request an extension from the teacher (2 extensions per unit will be permitted).

This extension is to be written    in the student"s diary and signed by both the teacher and parent. The extension may not be requested the day the work is due. An extension will normally be for a 2-3 day period, except if circumstances require longer.

Special arrangements are available for students who have been unable to complete a SAC due to prolonged illness or circumstances known to the College.
