SCIENCE
Rooms
Five dedicated Science classrooms with laboratory facilities. Two are
classified as Senior Science labs with individual experiment pods in spacious
classrooms.
The other three are classified as Junior Science rooms with side-bench space.
In addition there is a computer pod with twelve computers, and two laboratory
preparation and store rooms. We employ a full-time Laboratory Technician
with a private office.
Courses
CSF Science as a core subject taken compulsorily by all Year 7 - 10 students.
VCE Years 11 & 12 Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and Physics.
Resources
Extensive resource library including many class sets of Science reference
books, commercial educational posters, up-to-date Science videos and CD-Roms
with access to computer facilities.
Dedicated senior Biology, Chemistry, Psychology & Physics reference
material.
New larger than life models and modelling kits covering a range of areas,
including biology, geology, physics and chemistry.
Equipment
Large screen TV, video player, dvd player and "Videoflex" portable
camera.
Electronic balances (side and top-loading).
Electrical and electronics kits including a Van der Graff generator and
Cathode Ray Oscilloscopes.
Class sets of basic Lego and Lego-Technics.
Geological rock identification kits and an extensive collection of unusual
rocks and fossils.
Kinematics equipment including an "air-track" and ticker-tape
timer.
Data-logging software coupled to Scientific hardware such as a pH meter,
temperature probe, sound-intensity meter, Light meter and motion detector.
Junior monocular, senior binocular and stereo microscopes.
Automatic "weather station" continually monitoring external air
temperature, wind direction and velocity and rainfall.
Aquarium set-up with multiple water – testing kits.
